Hey there, and welcome back. I’m so glad you’re spending a few minutes with us today. I’m one of the doctors here at Kirar Superior Healthcare, serving the Goose Creek community — and today we’re talking about something I hear about every single day in our office. Lower back pain. If you’ve ever woken up stiff, struggled to get out of your car, or felt that nagging ache after a long day — this episode is for you.

Here’s the thing. Lower back pain is one of the most common reasons people come through our doors. But what most people don’t realize is that it rarely happens overnight. Most of the time, it’s been building up quietly — for weeks, months, sometimes even years — before it finally gets loud enough to stop you in your tracks. And that’s actually one of the biggest ideas behind the one hundred year lifestyle philosophy we practice here. The choices you make today — how you sit, how you move, how you care for your spine — they compound over time. Your body is designed to carry you for a lifetime. Let’s make sure it can.

So let’s talk about what’s actually causing that lower back pain. One of the most common culprits is postural stress. Think about how many hours a day you’re sitting. At a desk, in a car, on a couch. When we sit for long periods, the muscles and ligaments in the lower back get overloaded. The spine starts to shift out of its natural alignment. And over time, that creates pressure on the discs and the nerves that run through your lumbar spine. That pressure is often what you’re feeling when your back aches at the end of the day.

Now here’s what’s interesting — a lot of people think pain is the problem. But pain is actually the signal. It’s your body telling you that something has been off for a while. That’s why at Kirar Superior Healthcare, when you come in, we don’t just ask where it hurts. We look at the whole picture. We will take X-rays on the first visit if needed, so we can actually see what’s happening in your spine — not just guess. That kind of clarity makes a real difference in how we build your care plan.

Another major cause of lower back pain is muscle imbalances. When certain muscles are too tight — and others are too weak — your spine ends up carrying load it wasn’t designed to carry unevenly. Your hip flexors, your core, your glutes — they all work together to support your lumbar spine. When one piece of that puzzle is off, the whole system suffers. Chiropractic adjustments help restore proper joint motion, and our team can also guide you through simple movement habits that support that alignment long term.

And then there’s disc involvement. Herniated or bulging discs are more common than people realize, and they can cause everything from local back pain to shooting pain down the leg. If you’re noticing that kind of radiating discomfort, that’s a sign your nervous system is involved — and that’s something our doctors take very seriously.

Here’s what you can do starting today. Move more. Even short walks throughout the day can make a meaningful difference for your lower spine. Be intentional about how you sit — support that natural curve in your low back. And when you’re lifting anything — even something light — bend at the hips and knees, not the waist. Small habits, practiced consistently, are the foundation of a healthy spine for life. That’s the one hundred year lifestyle in action.

Now, if your lower back pain has been hanging around for more than a few days — or if it keeps coming back — please don’t just push through it. That’s your body asking for help. Our team at Kirar Superior Healthcare is here to find the root cause and build a plan that gets you feeling better and keeps you that way. We’re not just focused on getting you out of pain. We’re focused on helping you live well for the long haul.
