In this episode, Dr. Kirar MR from Kirar Superior Healthcare discusses why movement is one of the most powerful medicines available, particularly for conditions like lower back pain, headaches, and neck pain.
Many patients believe rest is the best approach when they’re hurting, but Dr. Kirar explains why this common instinct can actually delay healing. Learn how strategic movement can reduce pain, improve function, and support your journey toward 100 Year Health.
If you’ve been sidelined by pain and aren’t sure whether to move or rest, this episode offers practical guidance to help you make the right choice for your body.
Hey there, Goose Creek. This is Doctor Kirar from Kirar Superior Healthcare, and today I want to talk with you about something that might sound too simple to be true — but movement really is one of the best medicines we have. Especially when it comes to lower back pain, headaches, and neck pain.
You know what I hear almost every day in my practice? Someone comes in hurting and tells me they’ve been resting, laying low, trying not to move too much because they’re afraid movement will make things worse. And I get it. When your back is screaming at you or your neck feels locked up, the last thing you want to do is move. But here’s the thing — our bodies are designed to move. When we stop moving, we actually make the problem worse.
Let me explain what happens. When you’re dealing with lower back pain and you decide to just sit on the couch or stay in bed, those muscles start to tighten up. Blood flow decreases. The joints get stiff. And now you’re not just dealing with the original problem — you’ve created a whole new set of issues. Your body needs movement to heal. Movement brings fresh blood to the area, carries away waste products, keeps the joints lubricated, and maintains muscle strength.
Now, I’m not saying you should go run a marathon when your back hurts. That’s not what I mean by movement. I’m talking about gentle, purposeful movement. Walking is incredible medicine. Even just ten to fifteen minutes of walking can start to loosen things up and get that healing process going. Gentle stretching. Moving through your normal daily activities instead of being afraid of them.
Here’s what’s interesting about headaches and neck pain — they’re often connected to how much we’re not moving during the day. Think about it. How many hours do you spend looking at a screen? Driving? Sitting at a desk? Your head weighs about ten to twelve pounds, and when it’s constantly tilted forward looking at your phone or computer, that puts enormous strain on your neck. We call that forward head posture, and it’s one of the biggest causes of neck pain and tension headaches I see.
The fix? Movement breaks. Every thirty minutes, stand up. Roll your shoulders back. Turn your head side to side. Look up at the ceiling. These tiny movement habits throughout your day can make a massive difference in how you feel. This is really what the hundred year lifestyle is all about — making small, consistent choices every single day that support your body for the long haul. You’re not just trying to get out of pain today. You’re building habits that let you thrive for decades to come.
Now, when you do come into our office, one of the main things we focus on is restoring proper movement to your spine and joints. That’s what chiropractic adjustments do. We find areas that aren’t moving correctly, and we restore that motion. But the adjustment is just the beginning. What you do between visits matters just as much. That’s why I always give my patients specific movements and exercises to do at home.
So here’s what you can start doing today. First, just move more. Set a timer if you have to — every thirty minutes, stand up and move for two minutes. Walk around your house or office. Stretch your arms overhead. Second, pay attention to your posture. Bring your screen up to eye level instead of looking down all the time. Pull your shoulders back. And three, if you’re dealing with pain right now, don’t wait for it to go away on its own. The longer you wait, the more compensations your body creates, and the harder it becomes to fix.
If you’re in Goose Creek and you’re struggling with lower back pain, headaches, or neck pain, we’d love to help you at Kirar Superior Healthcare. Movement is medicine — but sometimes you need a little help getting that movement back. That’s where we come in.
Thanks for listening, and remember — your body is designed to last a hundred years. Let’s make sure it moves well for all of them. Take care.
