How Tight Hips Contribute to Lower Back Pain

Episode Notes:

In this episode of the Kirar Superior Healthcare podcast, Dr. Kirar MR explores the surprising link between tight hips and chronic lower back pain — a connection most people never make on their own. He explains how restricted hip mobility forces the lower back to compensate, leading to the aches and discomfort so many people struggle with daily. Drawing on the 100 Year Health philosophy, Dr. Kirar emphasizes that addressing root causes — not just symptoms — is the key to lasting relief and long-term wellness. Whether you’re local to the Goose Creek area or tuning in from anywhere, this episode gives you practical insight into how your body works as a connected system. If lower back pain has been holding you back, this is a must-listen.

Hey, welcome back. I’m so glad you’re here today. I’m Doctor Kirar, and this is the Kirar Superior Healthcare podcast — where we talk about real health topics that actually affect your daily life. If you’re listening from the Goose Creek area, welcome. You’re in the right place.

Today we’re diving into something that affects so many people, and honestly, most folks never connect the dots on this one. We’re talking about tight hips — and how they could be the hidden reason your lower back keeps hurting.

Now, here’s the thing. When people come into our office with lower back pain, the first place they point is… their lower back. Which makes total sense. That’s where it hurts. But what we find, time and time again, is that the lower back is often the victim — not the cause. And tight hip flexors? They are one of the biggest culprits we see.

Let me break this down for you. Your hip flexors are a group of muscles that run along the front of your hips and connect into your lower spine. Their job is to help you bend forward, lift your legs, and keep you upright. Now, think about how much time most of us spend sitting. At a desk, in a car, on the couch. When you sit for long periods, those hip flexor muscles are in a shortened, contracted position for hours at a time. And over time, they stay that way. They get tight. They get stiff.

Here’s what’s interesting. When those hip flexors tighten up, they start to pull on your pelvis. They tilt it forward. And when your pelvis tilts forward, your lower spine gets compressed and strained. The curve in your lower back gets exaggerated, the joints get loaded unevenly, and your muscles have to work overtime just to keep you upright. That’s a recipe for lower back pain — and it can even travel up the spine and contribute to neck tension and headaches over time. It’s all connected.

You know what I hear a lot from patients? They say, “I’ve tried everything for my back and nothing works.” And when our team examines them, we find that their spine has been under that kind of abnormal stress for months — sometimes years. The body adapts. But adaptation has a limit. That’s actually at the heart of what we call the hundred year lifestyle philosophy. The idea that your body is built to function at a high level for a lifetime — but only if you’re taking care of the underlying issues, not just masking the symptoms.

So what can you do today? First, get up and move more often. Even standing up every thirty minutes and walking for just a minute or two can make a real difference. Second, add a simple hip flexor stretch to your morning routine. Step one foot forward into a gentle lunge position, lower your back knee toward the floor, and hold it for about thirty seconds on each side. Nothing fancy — just consistent. Third, pay attention to your posture when you’re sitting. Try not to let your low back collapse. Supporting that natural curve matters more than most people realize.

Now, stretching and moving more are great starting points. But if the underlying spinal alignment is already off — if your pelvis is already tilted and your joints are already under stress — stretching alone often isn’t enough. That’s where chiropractic care comes in.

At Kirar Superior Healthcare, our team takes a thorough look at what’s actually going on in your spine and hips. We will take x-rays on the first visit if needed, so we’re not guessing — we’re looking at the real picture. From there, we build a care plan designed around your body and your life. Because the goal isn’t just to get you out of pain. The goal is to keep you moving and functioning well for the long haul. That’s the hundred year lifestyle vision — a long, healthy, active life, lived fully.

If you’ve been dealing with lower back pain and nothing has really stuck, I want you to come in and let our team take a look. We’re right here in Goose Creek, and we would love to help you get to the bottom of it.
